I received some new pictures from Iowa on 5/11. They have been added to the Iowa section.
Here are some pictures I took on May 8 2008 in Nevada Iowa (Central Iowa). The first pictures were taken at 12:00 p.m. and the sky was a perfect blue, with no clouds in the next hour and a half the sky became completely covered with a thin white layer of clouds.
After that layer dissipated (about two hours late more trails were left and the ‘rainbow’ appeared reflecting off of one of the trails, I have numbered the pictures in time sequence, I don’t know if these are of any help or if you would like to post them, I don’t know what they are, but I do know that I have two small children and when the skies look like that I don’t want them playing outside.
Please note that on the pictures with the rainbows there were no filters or lenses on my camera, and the rainbow was clearly visible with the naked eye.
May 8 Post
A reader has sent in some great photos from Iowa, they can be found in the picture gallery.
These photos were taken at dusk on May 7, and at sunrise on May 8. The day before (May 6), we had a very strong storm system with high winds. On May 7 & 8 there was very little wind - wondered about the connection. I also checked the doppler radar and online weather reports, and they all reported clear skies for May 8 with no clouds.
